The Last Rainmaker
This story utilizes Igbo mythology to set a dystopian Nigeria, battling with climate change and drought. In a little village, the Ancient Order of the ogha mmiri or rainmakers is thought to come to an end after the last man dies without a male heir. His daughter, sees the devastation the drought has brought, the hunger looming, her mother’s tears and plays around with her father’s rain making staff, herbs and chants. She is thrown to the spirit world where she meets all the elements and unites them for balance to be restored.
The power of the rainmakers is passed down to her but comes with a dangerous cost
